BRANSON, Mo., June 24, 2014 –Recently, Garon Brett of The Bretts Show was the featured guest artist at the “Be the One” June Jubilee fundraiser for Safe Home in Kansas City, Kansas. Safe Home is a non-profit organization that provides food, housing, counseling, healthcare, and legal assistance to women and children who are victims of domestic violence and abuse.
The entire event was themed after the song “Be the One”, which was written by Garon and his mother, Andrea Brett. Last Fall, a member of the Overland Park, Kansas community attended The Bretts Show and heard Garon sing the song. She was inspired by its message and decided that day to return home and “be the one” by becoming a volunteer at Safe Home. She was asked to serve on the planning committee for the annual charity event, and when she told her story about the song and played it for the committee, they decided unanimously that it would be the perfect theme for the 2014 Safe Home gala.
Garon was then invited to perform the song at the event, which also included a fundraising dinner, a silent auction and a live auction. A Branson package which included generous donations for hotel accommodations, show tickets and attractions drew $800 at the live auction. In total, the “Be the One” Jubilee raised $115,000 for Safe Home, which was one of their best years to date. Garon’s song was inspired by his experiences in Bogota, Colombia as a missionary, where he saw people of all ages who suffered from neglect, poverty and abuse.
Of his opportunity to be such an integral part of the Safe Home event Garon Brett expressed, “It was an honor and a ‘pinch myself’ moment to be a part of this event with Safe Home. It was amazing how the mission of Safe Home and the inspiration behind ‘Be the One’ just fit together. Events that help people, like this one, are really why I write music. All of us have gifts that we can use to help and influence people. I’m thankful I was able to use mine to at least help a little bit tonight.”
Tom and Andrea Brett, who also attended the event echoed Garon’s sentiments. “It was so amazing seeing so many people give so generously to such a worthy cause. It was also very gratifying to see Garon and his song be used for good,” said Tom. “That’s really what it’s all about. It was definitely one of those moments that makes a parent very proud.”
